Sunday is Kirsten Lilford's graduate exhibition at Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town.
Relooking at that which many take for granted inform’s Kirsten Lilford’s series of “Sunday” paintings, which present the simple pleasures of life such as a walk in the sun or a day by the pool. These essentially middle-class leisure activities embody a freedom not available to all in South Africa’s economic context. Overshadowed by sense of vague threat manifest through the darkening and isolating of such images the privilege , and vulnerability, of such ease is highlighted.
